[the following is excerpted from the announcement made during
the august 30, 2009 morning services.]
Every Sunday, when the
guy doing announcements finishes, he usually concludes with the
phrase – “Connecting for life” and that’s because that is what
Northwest Community Church is all about.
We know that the true
life of this church is the life of Jesus lived out through every
believer. And, we are thrilled to see so many of you engaged in
the passionate pursuit of life-changing relationships.
Now having said that, one
of the challenges with which we have struggled over the years is
this: How can we better say we want to connect with the people
who drive by our facilities and view our property?
Take a drive down
Guilbeau Road toward the church building. But this time, view
the property through the eyes of someone who has no idea of what
lies beyond the façade seen by the human eye. What do you see?
What does that say to you?
Symbolically linking our
theme of “connecting for life” to our grounds and facility is
what Project C.U.R.B. Appeal is all about.
Project C.U.R.B. Appeal
is a new initiative that envisions transforming the church
property, starting at the corner of Guilbeau Road & Old Tezel
Road, moving on up to the playground, then addressing issues
related to our façade then on into the Foyer. We know that you
want our grounds and facility to say, “Welcome!”
C.U.R.B. is an acronym
that stands for how we intend to achieve this goal: Create,
Update, Remodel and Build.
- Create – there will
be new elements added to the property. One example is a
monument marker on the front corner consisting of three
crosses on a rock base.
- Update – the
playground and surrounding landscape will be updated and
reworked with new equipment and drought-tolerant,
heat-tolerant, attractive plantings.
- Remodel – the chain
link fence will be replaced with more attractive fencing.
- Build – the church
façade will be enhanced with wood and stone work
These are just a few
examples of what we envision happening through Project C.U.R.B.
Appeal.
Initial estimates for the cost of this project shared at the
church’s Semi-Annual Meeting in March are approximately
$100,000.
Funding for Project
C.U.R.B. Appeal will be dependent on your donations over and
above your regular giving to the General Fund. Being on the
Finance Committee, I’ve seen the Budget for the next fiscal
year. It is an ambitious budget. Your gifts to the General Fund
are always appreciated as those gifts make it possible for a
variety of ministries to effectively function.
So Project C.U.R.B.
Appeal will be dependent on prayerful, even sacrificial giving
over and above your regular giving. You should also know that
each component of the project will only begin when the funds are
on hand for that particular part of the project.
SPECIFIC DETAILS
- Project C.U.R.B.
Appeal starts TODAY.
- The components of
this project are focused on the following:
- the grounds –
what you see from Guilbeau Road
- the facility –
again, what you see from Guilbeau Road as well as what
you first see when you enter the Foyer.
- The components will
be prioritized based on their proximity to Guilbeau Road –
meaning we will start Project C.U.R.B. Appeal at the curb!
- Funding is to be
from “over and above General Fund” giving, with the total
project estimated to cost $100,000.
- Components will
start when the funding is on hand.
- To donate to Project
C.U.R.B. Appeal, simply put CURB on the memo line of your
check.
Be watching your mail box
later this week. You should be receiving a letter with
additional details about Project C.U.R.B. Appeal.
Just remember, that what
we are wanting to achieve through this project is to symbolize
our theme – connecting for life – because that IS what we are
all about!
